Ahlan wa Sahlan

Bismillah ir Rahman ir Raheem
In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His messenger (s.a.w).

Asalamoalaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu

For quite a while now, and on a regular basis, I have been mailing you and others what I have felt would be beneficial.

Well, the emails, as I see it, serve the following purposes:

1) In order to complete my responsibility of sharing knowledge
2) Giving friendly reminders (not picking on anyone, nor seeking to give unwarranted "sermons")
3) For you to share the knowledge with those who you know
4) For you to send me something in return, which you think would be beneficial for me.

These emails might not have been necessary if all of us were together, seeing eachother every now and then... and I only began sending them when I felt that I had not seen so many of you and wished to share the little that I was learning.

Muwarriq said,
"I do not find any example for the believer except a man in the sea on a log who calls: 'O my Lord, O my Lord.' Perchance He (`azza wa jall) may redeem him."

Ibn Mas`ud radhiallahu anhu said,
"Allah does not accept du`a from the ostentatious, the one who flaunts and the one who is not serious, (He accepts only) from a person who praises and asks from his heart."

`Aishah radhiallahu `anha is reported to have said,
"No believer makes du`a and it is wasted. Either it is granted here in this world or deposited for him in the Hereafter as long as he does not get frustrated."

Five Things Cause Five Others
Abu Hurayrah, radhiallahu `anhu said,
"If anyone has five things then he will not be deprived of five others.
1. He who is enabled to show gratitude will never be deprived of increase of blessings.
"If you give thanks, certainly I will give you more." (14:7)
2. He who is guided to persevere will not be deprived of reward.
"Truly the persevering will be paid their reward in full without reckoning." (39:10)
3. One who is inspired to repent will not be deprived of its acceptance:
"And He is (Allah) Who accepts repentance from His servants." (42:25)
4. One who is enabled to seek forgiveness will not be deprived of receiving pardon.
"Seek forgiveness of your Lord; surely He is Ever-Forgiving." (71:10)
5. He who is spurred to make supplication is not deprived of an answer.
"Call upon Me, and I shall answer you." (40:60)
Someone else added a sixth proposition that one who is encouraged to spend will not be deprived of reward thereof.
"And whatsoever you expend (for good) He shall replace it." (34:39)

Highs and Lows of Eeman...and chillin'

The following two narrations from the Sunnah explain how a Muslim's enthusiasm for the Deen changes from time to time and also the essential point of not falling short of what is required during the period of inactivity and rest.

It is in these times in particular that an encouragement of other fellow Muslims is particularly beneficial. Ibn Shawdhab, from the third generation of Muslims, said: "From Allah's blessings upon a youth when he (she) turns to worship is that he is given a brother (sister) who is a follower of the Sunnah encouraging him upon it."

From Hanzalah al-Usayyidee, radiyallahu `anhu, who said:
"Abu Bakr met me and asked: How are you O Hanzalah? I replied: Hanzalah is guilty of hypocrisy! He said: Free is Allah and far removed from all defects! What are you saying? I said: When we are with Allah's Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, and he reminds us of the Fire and Paradise it is as if we are seeing it with our own eyes. Then when we depart from Allah's Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, to attend to our wives, children and our business, then much of this slips from our minds. Abu Bakr said: By Allah we also experience the same. So I went with Abu Bakr until we entered upon Allah's Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam. I said: When we are with you, you remind us of the Fire and of Paradise and it is as if we are seeing it with our eyes. Then when we depart from you and attend to our wives, children and business then much of this slips from our minds. So Allah's Messenger, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: By Him in whose Hand is my soul if you remained continually as you are when you are with me and in remembering (Allah) then the angels would shake hands with you upon your beds and upon your roads.
But O Hanzalah, (there is) a time for this and a time for that, (there is) a time for this and a time for that, (there is) a time for this and a time for that. [Muslim, no. 6623]

From ibn `Umar radiyallahu `anhuma who said that Allah's Messenger sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said: For every action there is a period of enthusiasm/activity, and for every period of enthusiasm/activity there is a period of rest/inactivity. \nSo he whose period of rest/inactivity is in accordance with my Sunnah then he is rightly guided, but he whose period of rest accords with other than this, then he is destroyed. [Ahmad 2/188 and 210]

(Note: This does not mean playing, let\'s say, basketball for entertainment is wrong. Please don't take the hadith too literally, look deeper... If you have some doubts, email me inshaAllah and \'ll be happy to clear things out ...)
